I'm available for a focused range of projects where writing, editorial thinking, and cultural intelligence need to work together. I'm not a content mill. I work with a small number of clients at any one time, and I'm selective about fit.
What I do
Long-form writing & editorial Essays, profiles, reported features, and cultural criticism. I write for publications and I write on commission. I'm particularly strong on subjects where place, identity, craft, and material culture intersect - wine, food, design, heritage, the built environment, the natural world.
Brand storytelling & copywriting For heritage brands, cultural institutions, and lifestyle companies that need writing with genuine intellectual weight - not agency-smooth, but specific, voiced, and true. I've made work for National Geographic, the Tate Modern, Bloomberg, Magnum Photography, Lexus, and others.
Editorial consulting If you're building a publication, developing a content strategy, or trying to establish a distinctive editorial voice, I can help you think through structure, tone, and positioning - and write the copy that makes it real.
Cultural communications Particularly relevant for wine, food, and agricultural heritage brands operating in European or international markets. I bring both insider knowledge and an outsider's eye - I've spent years working across New Zealand, the UK, and the Netherlands, and I understand how provenance stories travel across cultures.

I'm based in Amsterdam and work across time zones without difficulty.
Rates & process
I work on a project basis. Typical engagements range from a single commission to an ongoing retainer. I'm happy to discuss scope and budget directly - there's no awkwardness in that conversation.
The best first step is a brief email outlining your project. I'll respond within 48 hours.
A note on availability
I take on a limited number of external projects alongside my work as EMEA Director for Te Mata Estate. If timing doesn't work immediately, it's worth staying in touch - I keep a short list of projects I'd like to take on when space opens.
